BoonDocker Overview
BoonDocker is a standalone GPS tracking application designed by Image
Peak Systems utilizing their ChartTiff Enhanced Digital Graphical Data Sets.
BoonDocker
is designed for
the Outdoor Enthusiast where topographic maps are the
standard.
BoonDocker is compatible with Windows Mobile Version 5 or later
Smartphones with storage card capability and utilizing the
Internal Hardware GPS if available or an External Bluetooth
GPS device such as a Garmin GPS 10 or 10X.

Users can view and zoom various scales of ChartTiff elevation shaded topographic maps; 1:24,000 Scale, 1:100,000
Scale, 1:250,000 Scale and Aerial Photo Imagery. The
selecting of the map type and zooming can be preformed by menu selection or
utilizing the specified Accelerator keys. ChartTiff map data is available
for the entire USA. USGS NED (National Elevation Data) is also
included for selected area coverage for offline elevation requirements.
The map data sets may contain any combination of
ChartTiff data and can span multiple storage cards.
Users are allowed to
start up BoonDocker with
or without the GPS enabled. Users work
On-Line
where maps move below the current GPS position or work
Off-Line
where
users can pan throughout the map data set. Entering the Off-Line mode is
performed by clicking any button of the 5-Button keypad or touching
the Stylus on the screen. Returning to the On-Line mode is performed by clicking the
center key of the 5-Button keypad. Panning is performed by utilizing the Arrow Keys
about the 5-Button keypad or by using the Stylus and the Scrollbars. BoonDocker
map data is actually stored in a larger back buffer and then the required window
is copied to the screen. Once the user reaches the edge of the back buffer
BoonDocker
automatically loads in the next required map window, if the user is on the edge
of a multiple card map data set the user is prompted to swap storage cards.
User functionality includes Tracs, WayPoints, Routes, Locating
Modes, importing of Geocaching data and Text Messaging.
Tracs are an On-Line only capability that allow
users to leave a trail of where they have been. Users are allowed up to 6
simultaneous Tracs. Currently generated Tracs can be Paused and Continued
allowing users to generate a Sub-Tracs. Users can select various
Tracs Options such as the interval, color and width. Tracs can be saved, reloaded and
deleted.
Routes
can be generated both On-Line and Off-Line. On-Line Routes
allow users to leave a route of where they have been. Off-Line Routes
allow users to generate a planned route by utilizing the stylus. Users are allowed up
to 6 simultaneous Routes. Route points (symbols) are generated at a user
specified intervals. Currently generated On-Line Routes can be Paused and
Continued allowing users to generate a Sub-Routes. Users can select
various Route Options such as the interval, color, width and to display
labels. In addition to Routes being
saved, reloaded and deleted, Routes can be edited. Users are allowed to
add / edit labels and descriptions at Route points, and are also allowed to
add / delete / move Route points. Users can also Plot an Elevation Profile of a displayed
Route.
WayPoints
are individual symbols with associated attributes generated at specific points that can be generated both On-Line and
Off-Line. On-Line WayPoints can be placed by the user by simply pressing
the specified Accelerator key at the current GPS location or anywhere on the
current map screen by utilizing the stylus. Off-Line WayPoints can be
placed anywhere on the current map screen by utilizing the stylus. BoonDocker
supplies a WayPoint Symbol Library of over 125 unique symbols. In addition
to adding individual WayPoints, WayPoints can be edited, deleted, moved and
located.
Individual WayPoints have various attributes; a automatic or user defined label,
a short comment and a long description. Optional attributes include; a
Windows Mobile Note and description, a picture set and description taken from
the internal camera and a URL / HTML File link and description. WayPoint
sets can be saved, reloaded and deleted.
There are two ways within
BoonDocker to locate a point.
Locator Mode allows the user to simply input a
Latitude / Longitude location to locate.
WayPoint
Locate allows the user to select a WayPoint from the currently loaded
WayPoint set to locate. Once the locate mode is enabled a locator arrow
will be displayed on the screen and point to the location of the point.
Once within the area of the point the locator arrow will be removed and the
phone will beep.
BoonDocker allows for the
Importing of Geocaching ".loc" and ".gpx"
files and conversion to WayPoints. Geocaching files are obtained from the
Geocaching.com web site, The Official Global GPS Cache Hunt Site. Files
can be placed either in the phone memory or the storage card for importing.
Once imported the WayPoints will have the Geocach symbol assigned, and the geocaching
label and description from the file. The ".gpx" imported files will also
include a BoonDocker generated ".html" file that will include all the geocaching notes.
The file can be view by displaying the link option in
the Edit WayPoint dialog. Once imported new WayPoints can then be saved as
a set.

Text Messages can be sent directly from BoonDocker.
The user can configure the default set of messages and assign up to 6 user
numbers. Messages are sent to the recipient with the current Latitude /
Longitude location. |
